“Railway Safety on the Frontline” program
19/08/2011
On 4 April, 2011, the SPF Mobilité et Transport (Belgian transportation ministry) organized the seminar, “Railway Safety on the Frontline.”
This seminar focused on building a culture of rail safety.
It was designed by a2 and led by Professor Patrick Lagadec, writer and researcher at the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris, specializing in prevention and crisis management, in collaboration with Marc Lerchs and Sven De Greef, graduates in disaster relief and emergency management.
“We live in a world where navigating in stormy weather has become the rule and calm waters the exception,” explains Lerchs. “It is important for leaders to be able to meet periodically to discuss and share not only strategy, knowledge and experience but also questions and reservations. The problems ahead are complex and interconnected. No single person will be able to solve them alone. This kind of meeting fosters the communication and confidence between leaders that will be indispensible to the prevention and management of future crises.”
In taking this initiative and in anticipating the requests of the parliamentary commission from June 2010, the SPF Mobilité et Transport has fully complied with the prescribed terms of European rail safety regulations.
